Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mariam Katagum

The Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mariam Katagum while speaking during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Monday, said the Federal Government had held strategic meeting with Benin Republic and Niger to reach an agreement on modalities for the country’s border reopening.

Part of the agreement reached, she said, was the setting up of a joint border patrol team made up of security personnel from Customs, Air force and other security agencies.

It will be recalled that the Federal Government had in August 2019 closed the country’s borders to neighbouring countries in an exercise code-named operation Exercise Swift Response, which has seen a joint border patrol by combined team of the country’s security agencies.

However, no date has been announced yet by the Federal Government when the country’s border will be reopened to neighbouring countries.
