Nigeria slips further in Global Corruption Index in 2019 -TI

Transparency International, TI in its annual Corruption Perception Index publication for 2019, ranked Nigeria 146 in the World down from 144 in 2018.

The report shows that Nigeria out performed 34 other countries out of 180 considered to rank 144, behind Botswana (34), Rwanda (51) and Mauritius (56) among other African nations.

This is even as President Muhammadu Buhari has made fighting corruption the main policy plank of his administration.

The top countries are New Zealand and Denmark followed by Finland, Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland.

The bottom countries are Somalia, South Sudan and Syria. These countries are closely followed by Yemen, Venezuela, Sudan , Equatorial Guinea and Afghanistan.
