United States Government Scholarships for International Students 

 

Foreign Fulbright Student Program

The grant covers tuition fees, textbooks, airfare, a living stipend, and health insurance.

Humphrey Fellowship Program
The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program is a 10-month professional enrichment program in the United States for experienced professionals from designated countries throughout the world.

Fellows are nominated by U.S. Embassies or Fulbright Commissions based on their potential for leadership and a demonstrated commitment to public service.

The scholarship is a full grant covering all related expenses.

 

Top United States Colleges and Universities that offer Scholarships for International Undergraduate and Graduate Students 

 

AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship Program
American University awards scholarships to promote educational access and opportunity. It is awarded to international students who desire to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree at the University and bring about positive civic and social change in their home communities.

The AU EGL scholarship covers full tuition, room, and board for ONE international student who will need a visa (preferably an F-1 or J-1 student visa) to study in the United States.

It, however, does not cover non-billable expenses such as mandatory health insurance, books, airline tickets, taxes, and miscellaneous expenses,

Amherst College Scholarships
Amherst College Scholarship is strictly a need-based financial aid program that provides assistance to financially needy international students.  It is not based on merit performance.

Once you have been admitted, and your financial need determined, a financial aid award that is equal to your total need will then be offered.  The award is sometimes called an “aid package” because it may include both self-help (employment) and gift aid (scholarships and grants).

Berea College Scholarships
The scholarship is a fully-funded scholarship for international students who want to undertake undergraduate studies at Berea College USA

Admitted international students receive financial aid that covers 100% of tuition, room, board, and fees for the first year of enrollment.  In subsequent years, the students are expected to contribute toward their expenses.

The College also provides summer jobs to international students to assist them meet this obligation.

Clark University Scholarships
Clark University offers the “Clark Presidential Scholarships” to students based on their academic record and leadership potential. The scholarships are awarded to approximately five students each year. It covers full tuition, on-campus room and board for all four years, regardless of a family’s financial need.

The university also offers other scholarships to students. When you send in your admissions application, you will be considered automatically for several merit scholarships.

Colby-Sawyer College Scholarships
Colby-Sawyer College offers financial scholarships to qualified international students based on merit. The scholarship value increases based on academic ability (measured in GPA).

Concordia College Scholarships
Concordia College offers a number of scholarships based on academic achievement, performing arts, and general student status. It provides partial financial assistance to international students based on academic performance and family needs. The total sum may be up to $16,000 per annum. International Excellence Scholarships are competitive, merit-based scholarships that are awarded to international first-year students or transfer students for up to four years and range from $8,000 – $16,000 per year.

Dartmouth College Scholarships
Dartmouth College has scholarships and loans available to international students, which include an allowance for travel to the U.S.

The college’s scholarships are awarded through the support of alumni, corporations, and nonprofit foundations funding.

East Tennessee State University
International students seeking admission into East Tennessee State University (ETSU) have the opportunity of being awarded the “International Students Academic Merit Scholarship”. The value of the scholarship for each academic year is $12,500 for Undergraduate students and $5000-$9000 for Graduate students.

East West Center 
The East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship provides funding for Master’s and Doctoral degree study for graduate students from Asia, the Pacific, and the U.S. to participate in the educational, cultural, residential community building, and leadership development programs at the East-West Center while pursuing graduate study at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa (UHM).

The scholarship is for students committed to positive change in the Asia Pacific region.

Emory College Scholarships
Emory College offers merit-based financial aid awards to a few international students each year. Students from foreign countries who are not permanent residents of the United States are considered for these scholarship awards.

Illinois Wesleyan University Scholarships
Illinois Wesleyan awards merit scholarships and other financial support for international students. These awards range from $16,000 to $30,000 per year and are renewable for up to four years. The merit scholarship is awarded to applicants with exceptional academic performance and test scores on the required entrance exams.

The school’s President’s Scholarships are awarded each year to qualified international students in their first year for up to four years of study based on their talents, interests, and academic performance.

Iowa State University International Merit Scholarships
International students in their first year will be considered for a limited number of merit scholarships. The scholarship selection process is competitive based on a holistic review of SAT or ACT scores and high school marks/grades.

The award is in two categories – Award of Achievement with a value up to $40,000 ($5,000/yr–$10,000/yr). and Award of Distinction having a value of up to $16,000 ($2,000/yr–$4,000/yr)

First-year recipients will be funded for a maximum of eight semesters, or completion of the degree, whichever comes first.

Michigan State University International Scholarships
Michigan University offers a limited number of scholarships and grants to incoming students with non-U.S. residency status at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The award is competitive.

New York University Wagner Scholarships
The merit scholarship is competitive and merit-based to help finance your degree pursuit including international students.  The scholarships are partial to full tuition scholarships ranging from $25,000-$47,000.

All full-time and part-time applicants are considered.

International student applicants are eligible for NYU Silver Tuition Scholarships.

University of Oregon Scholarships
The University of Oregon awards scholarships each year to incoming students and to those who are already attending the university. Over $2.5 million in financial aid and scholarships are offered to international students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Scholarships are based on financial need, academic merit, and the ability to make presentations to diverse groups of people

The “ICSP Scholarship” awards tuition-waiver scholarships ranging from partial to full tuition for up to 15 credits per term each year.

Wesleyan University Scholarships
The Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholars Program provides full scholarships for a four-year course of study at Wesleyan toward a bachelor’s degree for exceptionally able Asian students.  Applicants from The People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

Other international students who are not citizens of one of the Asian countries above can apply for need-based financial aid.

University of the West Scholarships
The University of the West (UWest) offers merit scholarships to new international students who achieve outstanding academic and personal performance.

The scholarships are renewable yearly based on outstanding academic performance.

For fresh students, the scholarship award has a value from $6,000-10,000 per year.

The Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) provides full scholarships to students from certain World Bank developing member countries to pursue development-related studies in 27 universities in U.S., Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan.

Students can choose to study for a master’s degree program in 8 participating USA Universities including Harvard University, John Hopkins University, University of Chicago, Cornell University, and Columbia University.

AAUW International Fellowships
AAUW (American Association of University Women) International Fellowships Program provides financial support for full-time study or research in the United States to international female students who intend to return to their home country to pursue a professional career.

The scholarship has a value of up to $30,000 depending on the program of study.

Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Programme
The Aga Khan Foundation offers postgraduate studies scholarships to gifted and outstanding students from selected developing countries each year who have no other means of financing their studies.

Scholarships are awarded for the entire duration of the degree course in the case of Master’s studies. While for PhD students, scholarships are awarded for the first two years, after which students are expected to find other sources of funding.
